Pengertian Gurindam

Gurindam adalah salah satu jenis puisi Melayu lama yang terdiri atas dua baris dalam satu bait. Baris pertama menyatakan perbuatan dan baris kedua menyatakan akibat yang timbul dari perbuatan tersebut. Gurindam berasal dari India yang memiliki makna suatu sajak dua baris seuntai, serupa dengan pantun kilat. Menurut KBBI, gurindam adalah sajak dua baris yang mengandung petuah atau nasihat, misalnya baik-baik memilih kawan, salah-salah bisa jadi lawan (KBBI, 2008: 469). Sama halnya seperti karya sastra lainnya, gurindam bertujuan sebagai sarana pendidikan dan hiburan.
